The History of Scranton4Biden and the Kitchen of 2446 North Washington Ave

The Beginnings

Scranton4Biden started as a grassroots movement among the neighbors and people that knew Joe Biden and his family back when they lived at 2446 and since them.  Old friends from across the street, down the street and people like our mom that stuck up friendship with Biden’s mom and the Senator Biden on his visits back home.  All of us driven by personal connection and a shared  passion and dedication to the values of hard work, honesty, compassion, and community.  Our collective work was born from a deep-seated desire to elect Joe Biden and defeat Donald Trump and to remain true to the local style politics that reflect the everyday struggles and hopes of immigrant kin and working-class families in Scranton and beyond.

The Birthplace: 2446 North Washington Ave

The house at 2446 North Washington Ave in Scranton, PA, became the a bit of a key step on the pathway of our organizing. This historic home, reflected the toen set by so many in the area but especially by Anne Kearns, with its welcoming porch and warm, inviting atmosphere, served as an important touchstone for so many to get that Scranton warmth.

The Kitchen at 2446 North Washington Ave

The kitchen at 2446 North Washington Ave was more than just a room; it was the soul of the house. This space embodied the essence of Kitchen Table Values—a place where people could gather, share stories, play cards,  break bread, grab drinks or coffees and discuss the issues that mattered most to them. The kitchen was the hub of activity, where late-night strategy sessions took place, and where the community's voice was heard and amplified among our family and firends and eventually out to the world of media visitors and lots of distinguished guests.

On October 28, 2020 Joe Biden's neighbors from his childhood home in Scranton, local leaders, and small business owners rallied together with folks from across Pennsylvania, along with friends far and wide to organize A Pennsylvania Neighborhood 'Bloc' Party: From This House to the White House
